49th Street Youth Shelter

"It takes a Village to Raise a Child"

We believe that youth are the greatest asset in any community or society, and so it follows that the quality of life is directly proportional to the level of commitment invested by the community into its youth. Youth are everyone’s responsibility.

The 49th Street Youth Shelter is an 8 bed facility located in Red Deer. The Shelter assists youth who are temporary homelessness and who are experiencing a crisis in their lives by providing safe emergency housing, food and unconditional emotional support. Services are offered to youth and families who seek the support and services of the shelter. The shelter not only advocates on behalf of the youth but as well empowers youth to make positive choices and to advocate on behalf of themselves.

Residential supports:
Youth 12-17
Homeless youth
Runaway youth
Stabilization
Youth in Transition
Community Based Supports:
Outreach Family Support
Youth and Young Adults in Transition (16-22)

Homelessness carries implications of belonging nowhere rather than simply having nowhere to sleep.

The 49th Street Youth Shelter also serves as a useful "outreach" to the community. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The 24hour crisis line (341-3190) is often used by teens and families seeking support.

For more information please contact Rose Hatfield, Shelter Director at 341-3190.
